Privacy policy

The short version
This is my personal website. I don't sell your information, and there are no ads or accounts here. A few outside services help count visits, run comments and play embedded media. Each one is listed below.
What I collect
- Visits. Google Analytics records which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors are, and what device and browser they use. It sets cookies to do this. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, Google Analytics doesn't load on this site at all.
- Emails you send me. If you email me, I keep your message and address so I can reply.
- Comments. Comments on stories are run by Disqus. Anything you post there, and the cookies Disqus sets, are covered by its own privacy policy.
What stays on your device
The audio player remembers where you stopped in each story and the speed you like. That's saved in your own browser and never sent to me. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Services this site uses
- Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any host, it handles basic request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and block abuse. Cloudflare's policy
- Google Analytics counts visits, as described above. Google's policy
- Disqus runs comments and only loads when you scroll near them. Disqus's policy
- TikTok loads its player on the one story that embeds a TikTok video. TikTok's policy

How I use information
Only to run this site, see which stories people read, and reply to messages. I don't sell or rent personal information, and I don't share it beyond the services listed above.
Your choices
- Turn on Do Not Track in your browser to stop Google Analytics here.
- Block or clear cookies in your browser settings.
- Email me to ask what I have about you, or to have it deleted.
California privacy rights
If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask me to:
- Tell you what personal information I've collected about you.
- Delete the personal information I've collected about you.
- Not sell your personal information. I don't sell it, but you can still ask.

Children
This site isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
